Sanborn, New York--The Mercyhurst North East (MNE) wrestling team will be heading to New York this weekend for their district tournament. This tournament is the qualifying tournament for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) championship tournament which will be held in two weeks in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The top three wrestlers at each weight class and a few allotted wild card bids from this weekend's district tournament will qualify for the national championships.
The Saints will take ten wrestlers to Sanborn, New York, were their lineup is highlighted by their only returning sophomore and 2018 national qualifier, Hunter Harnish at 197lbs. Harnish is going into the tournament with an 18-2 record with only one NJCAA loss. Currently ranked #7 in the country by Intermat, Harnish is looking to obtain a district title this weekend. Coming in at #6 in the country by Intermat is 157lber Spencer Head. Head currently has a record of 24-7 on the year and is looking to finish strong at his first regional tournament.
Other Wrestlers competing this weekend will be Dylan Pesock at 125lbs, Asher Frederick at 133lbs, Dillon Schnars at 141lbs, Aaron Morris at 149lbs, Demtrius Smith at 165lbs, Ragen Soledad at 174lbs, Draven Douglas at 184lbs, and Justin Johnson at HWT.
