The MNE Softball team traveled to Randolph, New Jersey this weekend to take on the County College of Morris for a three game series. With the Super Regional championship on the line, the Saints concluded their season by losing two out of three games. After winning game one 8-3, the Saints lost game two 7-5, and game three 8-4.
MNE had a hot start to the series, scoring atleast one run in every one of the first five innings. After building an 8-3 lead after five full innings, the Saints were able to close the door to gain a 1-0 edge on Morris. Cheyenne Hindman and Asja Johnson led the Saints offensively as each collected three hits apiece in the win. Hindman homered once, while Johnson smacked two homers in the win. Hindman and Johnson also combined to drive in six of the teams eight runs.
Cheyenne Hindman was as equally dominant defensively, pitching a complete game, while striking out three.
Game two had a different result. Despite having the lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Saints gave up three runs, which allowed Morris to gain a one run lead. Cheyenne Hindman, Asja Johnson, and Sierra Reid paced the Saints offensively, as each contributed multi hit games.
With the series tied at one game apiece, the regional championship came down to game three, which was played earlier than scheduled due to forcasted rain showers.
With a quick turnaround for both teams, the County College of Morris tallied eight runs within the first two innings. Tori Harding came on in relief and weathered the storm in the first inning, but it seemed to be too big of a hole for MNE to climb out of.
The Saints concluded their season by posting an overall record of 41-17. A special thank you to the Sophomore class who made this season so special!
