The Saints men's soccer team won one and lost one this past weekend as they competed in the Lakeland CC Invitational Tournament. The Saints would lose 2-0 on the first day, Saturday September 7th, as they took on the host team, Lakeland CC. Although the Saints weren't able to get much going in the form of offense, their defense held a strong Lakeland team to only 2 goals with standout performances from Sophomore Goalkeeper #1, Hector Corrales, who recorded 9 saves on the day, as well as Freshman #7 Elie Kabwanji, who played out of position at right back. Regardless of the position change, Kabwanji had a strong game.
On Sunday, the Saints would have a little more success, as they would take on Lorain County Community College and get the win by a score of 5-2. The game started off with Lorain getting on the board to make it 1-0 in the first 5 minutes. Sophomore #1, Hector Corrales, who would end up stepping out of the goal and playing a role in the midfield for the Saints, would net the first two goals to give the Saints a 2-1 lead. Lorain would tie the game just before half time at 2-2, but the second half would be all saints. A goal from sophomore #13 Justin Fuller, who was assisted by freshman #10 Daniel Benine, would put the Saints up 3-2. Benine would add his own goal shortly after to make it 4-2 with an assist from freshman, #23 Hso Htoo. The final goal for the Saints would come from freshman #11, Fred Kombe, as he picked the ball up around midfield and went on a solo run beating 4 Lorain players before slotting the ball into the back of the net.
The Saints are back in action for a double header with the women's team as they both travel to Jamestown CC this coming Wednesday on September, 11th.
