Saints Split Two Thrillers in Maryland

The Mercyhurst North East men's basketball team headed down to Montgomery CCC in Maryland this past weekend for a pair of games before heading home for Winter break.

In game one, the Saints took on Nassau CC. The game was tied at 63 and with only seconds left when the Saints turned to sophomore Tahjmere Jones. Jones, who had zero three's heading into the final seconds, promptly hit his first of the game as the clock expired, leading the Saints to a 66-63 victory.

Jones finished with 7 points, but none bigger than his game-winner.

Guard Tyler Williams led the Saints with 14 points while big man Jamari Johnson added 10 points, an astonishing seven blocks, and 13 boards.

Guards Ethan Lambert and Mario Antenor chipped in 10 apiece.

Game Two

In game two the Saints took on the home Montgomery CCC Raptors. Another hard fought game that needed five extra overtime minutes to be decided.

A game that saw nearly 100 foul shots, 66 taken by MCCC, the Saints fell 97-90 in O.T.

Tyler Williams did everything he could for the Saints, going for 26 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

Kelcey Lowry added 23 points and seven steals as he was impressive for 28 minutes off of the bench.

MCCC was able to keep the Saints big men in check holding the usually dominant duo of Jamari Johnson and Ian McNeil to six total points.

Tyler Williams had an impressive weekend for the Saints as he led the team in scoring.

Kelcey Lowry provided an exciting spark coming off of the bench in game two of the weekend, which is encouraging for coach Pullium moving ahead.

Perhaps the highlight of the year so far was Tahjmere Jones hitting a buzzer-beating three-pointer to secure the victory for the Saints in game one.

Heading into Winter break the Saints look to get healthy and rested. They also bring an impressive 9-6 record with them.

The season picks back up January 16th as Bryant & Stratton Buffalo heads to North East. Tip-off is at 7pm
