Lei Guthrie pitched a gem and Anna Swartout had the game winning hit in the seventh as the Saints won over NDJV in the first game Friday afternoon.

Both Guthrie and the Falcons starter were on their games, hold the opposing team scoreless through six innings.

In the top of the last inning, Justine Dean singled to left center and was replaced by Ayla Bragg to pinch run. Alyssa Johnston then singled before Tori Harding moved over both runners with a sac bunt. Swartout then singled up the middle to plate the only runs of the game.

Guthrie struck out nine and didn't issue a walk to get the complete game shutout.

Swartout was the only Saint to register two hits in the game.

Justine Dean gave the Saints five solid innings to get the win while Hannah Davis provided the Saints with just enough offense as MNE swept the day.

Dean gave up a run in the first inning, and allowed two more in the third, although these two were unearned as she struck out three while scattering just six hits.

Trailing 3-2 in the fifth, Anna Swartout walked and would tie the game on a wild pitch. In the sixth, Dean walked to lead off the inning. Ayla Bragg would run for Dean and would eventually score the winning run on a heads up base running play on a ground ball by Swartout.

Hannah David led the Saints with two hits, including a RBI single in the third inning when the Saints trailed by a run.

With the win, the Saints improve to 21-14 and will host Erie Community College on Saturday at 2pm.
