Saints Fall in First Game at Nationals

The Saints opened play at the National Tournament with a loss to the number five ranked DMACC Bears on Wednesday afternoon.

The game was close going into third inning but the Bears loaded the bases on three walks to start the inning off starter Lei Guthrie. Lea Theisen entered the game, but gave up back to back home runs and the game quickly was 7-0 with the Saints trailing.

Aren Schwab, Mackenzie Hawley, and Guthrie all had hits for the Saints but MNE failed to get a run across the plate as the game ended in five innings.

Mercyhurst (42-9) will now fall into the losers bracket and play again at 1:30 (2:30 Eastern Time) on Thursday vs Waubonsee. The tournament is double elimination so one more loss will end the Saints season.
