Saints Edge Out Delta

Mercyhurst earned a hard fought victory over Delta Community College in what is becoming a good rival between the two programs.

Delta beat Mercyhurst in their first ever match up last year in Florida and the Saints took both games this year, each by one run.

Mercyhurst scored first when Hannah Larkin ripped a single to center to bring home Mackenzie Hawley in the first inning. Grace Edwards then followed with a hit up the middle to plate Ashlyn Slusher to make it 2-0 after one inning.

In the third, Lei Guthrie walked to start the inning and would later score on another hit by Edwards.

Delta and Mercyhurst exchanged runs in the fifth, with the Saints scoring on a wild pitch to get Megan Minihane home.

After a two run homer pulled Delta within a 4-3 score, Mercyhurst responded when Kaelyn Shea scored on a ground out by Larkin.

Lei Guthrie went the distance to get the win, striking out five and scattering just seven hits.

Slusher, Edwards, Mueller, and Kaylee Brooks each finished the game with two hits as the Saints improve to 8-3 on the year.
